Summer Camp Frequently Asked Questions
How many kids do you have per session?
We keep our enrollment small to provide high quality instruction and safety standards.
Day camps and overnight camps have a capacity of 32 campers. Our groups sizes are 10-12 campers or less with an additional coordinator overseeing the group's needs. During surfing and snorkeling activities, we are joined by 3 aquatics staff, creating a maximum group size of 4 when in the water, with an additional lifeguard on shore.
Voyage Seaward is limited to 12 campers with 5-6 staff on board.
How do I prepare?
One month before your program, we will send out information packets with picklists, schedules, maps for drop off and pick up and more detailed contact information. If you need any information sooner, please email us at campsealab@wolfschool.org!
Will my kid make friends?
Our staff are trained in the Art of Welcome, making sure your camper feels included part of the group from the start. We start every camp with get to know you games and activities. If you camper is coming with a friend you are welcome to add a "buddy pair" when you register, or add notes that will help us get to know the needs of your camper! Our coordinators also look at age when creating groups. It is not uncommon to see campers trading phone numbers, making playdates and plans to return next summer together at the end of the week!
Does my camper need to have ocean experience?
All camps require that your camper knows how to swim. A minimum of floating independently, using kicks to maneuver and putting their face in the water is required. After that our aquatics team do a wonderful job of introducing the ocean in a fun and safety conscious manner. We will go over wildlife etiquette, ocean safety, boundaries, how to properly use equipment, and emergency communication. When you register you will be able to rate your campers swimming ability. Our coordinators look at those ratings in order to make groupings, so our staff know what level to instruct at.
What are the hiring requirements of your staff?
All our staff are both passionate and knowledgeable about marine science and working with children to give them the most positive camp experience! Camp SEA Lab requires all naturalist staff be at least 18 years of age and possess current CPR/First Aid certification. Extensive safety training prior to employment consists of risk assessment protocols, site evaluations, and camp activity training. Aquatics staff and all coordinators are Lifeguard certified and have extensive training and experience in our waterfront activities.
Our hiring process ensures high standards for employment are met, through screening and criminal background checks.
Can I contact my child at camp?
Campers should not bring electronics including cell phones to camp. Our “unplugged” policy is designed to encourage more time and focus to make connections to the outdoors and to other campers/new friends. In addition, we hope it protects your family from damage, theft and privacy violations from social media postings/photos.
Our coordinator will be available to communicate with parents and we will include our coordinators cell phone number in your information packet. Our coordinators will always call home should a camper be sick, injured, very homesick or in emotional distress.
