Day Camps

Camp SEA Lab day camp is a perfect opportunity for youth ages 8-13 to get a glimpse of the vast diversity that the ocean environment has to offer. Campers spend 5 days immersed in marine habitats with a variety of hands-on activities!

Each day from 9 am to 4 pm, day campers can expect fun-filled days packed with exciting activities that introduce them to important marine concepts, help them to build self-confidence and relationships with their peers, and involve them in learning to care for our coasts and ocean.

Camp SEA Lab day programs vary by location and theme. Our camps utilize a wealth of resources throughout the central coast. From slough to sea, Camp SEA Lab partners with multiple marine organizations up and down the coast to provide the best possible program for our participants. Health and safety are always our primary concern, and each site is selected for their commitment to maintain a safe environment.

Day Camp Descriptions

Between the Tides

What creatures live along the shoreline habitats of the Monterey Bay? Come join us to discover the wonderful world of the intertidal zone! Campers will get their hands wet while investigating many different sandy beach and rocky intertidal habitats, explore the beautiful coastline by kayak, and have exciting opportunities to discover what survives between the tides.

Activities: kayaking, tidepooling, boogie boarding, coastal hiking at Point Lobos and Asilomar, watercoloring, arts & crafts

Date: June 14-18, 2010

Location: Del Monte Beach @ Camino El Estero Ave, Monterey

Hours: 9am-4pm

Age: 8-11

Fee: $370 non-member / $333 member

Elkhorn Slough & You!

Enjoy the week exploring sloughs by foot and kayak to find its many hidden treasures! From large to small, many plants and animals have made Elkhorn Slough their home. Discover native species, investigate the microscopic world of plankton, experience up-close encounters with seals and sea lions, and help restore precious wetlands. The future of the slough is up to you!

Activities: kayaking, visit to Moss Landing Marine Labs, bird watching, plankton studies, watercoloring, arts & crafts

Date: July 19-23, 2010

Location: Elkhorn Slough Reserve, Moss Landing

Hours: 9am-4pm

Age: 8-11

Fee: $370 non-member / $333 member

Kelp Beds & Fish Heads

Ever wonder what mysteries lie beneath the waves? Discover the fascinating world of magnificent kelp forests, home to thousands of animals that rely upon the kelp for food, shelter, and survival. Come along and dive into this world by snorkel, explore the diversity of life found within, and embark on many underwater adventures that await you! Campers must be able to swim.

Activities: snorkeling, more snorkeling, fish dissection, visit to Moss Landing Marine Labs, coastal hiking at Point Lobos

Date: July 12-16, 2010

Location: Del Monte Beach @ Camino El Estero Ave, Monterey

Hours: 9am-4pm

Age: 10-13

Seals and Sails

Ahoy Matey! Sail your way around Monterey Bay with daily sailing lessons from certified instructors. Hone your skills in navigation, knot tying, and teamwork. Take a field trip to the Maritime Museum to learn about the life of a sailor and local maritime history. Spend the week exploring the coastline and discover marine life of the Monterey Bay! Campers must be able to swim.

Activities: sailing, boogie boarding, visit to Maritime Museum, sand crabbing, sailing challenge

Surf'n Sand Safari

Surfs up! Spend the week catching the curl in Monterey Bay while you learn to surf and explore the science of waves, tides and currents. Receive lessons from certified instructors and you hang ten up along the coast. Investigate marine life, create a sand sculpture masterpiece, and take part in marine conservation activities that help preserve and protect our coastline. Campers must be able to swim.

Hours: 9am-4pm

Age: 8-11

Camp SEA Lab offers limited transportation service* from Salinas and Monterey to aid families in getting their kids to and from camp each day. Registration for the shuttle is on a first-come, first-served basis. An additional fee of $50 per week is required for this service and is non-refundable once your week of camp begins.

* Please note that if you live in an area outside of our available transportation service (Monterey and Salinas) such as the Santa Cruz area, we may be able to connect you with other registered families to arrange your own independent carpool options to these programs. Please call our office at 582-3681 for details.
